Dear members of the Korean Neurotraumatology Society,
Greetings.
The Korean Neurotraumatology Society exists today thanks to the dedication and outstanding leadership of our founding president, Heon-Ju Kim, who spearheaded the society's founding in 1993, as well as the past presidents and senior members who have laid the foundation and direction for the society over the past 33 years and guided its continuous development. As the 25th president, I, despite my shortcomings, feel a profound sense of responsibility and will do my best to further enhance the achievements of my predecessors.
Since 1996, our society has published four editions of the "Textbook of Neurotauma", and our official journal, The Korean Journal of Neurotrauma (KJNT), celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and is listed in the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI). We are building a clinical and academic foundation in the field of neurotrauma through the annual meeting KNTS, the annual conferences with the name of “Neurotrauma Focus” and, “The KJNT Symposium”, spring and fall academic symposia, and regular case conferences. We are also steadily strengthening the strong friendship and harmony among our members, which are our hallmarks and strengths.
Building on these achievements, I will work to ensure that our Society evolves into a more influential academic community both nationally and internationally, while also remaining a warm and collegial organization where trust and friendship are deeply valued.
During my term, I plan to focus on the following key priorities :
• Strengthening academic depth through active collaboration and research exchange with relevant domestic and international academic organizations,
• Encouraging strong participation from young neurosurgeons and future research leaders to nurture and secure the next generation of experts in our field, and
• Establishing a practical academic platform where diverse clinical and research experiences can be translated into meaningful shared knowledge.
Furthermore, the rapidly changing medical environment and societal demands are making the role and responsibility of our society even more crucial. The phenomenon of avoiding essential medical care is worsening, and our society's members, who are dedicated to the field of severe trauma, are safeguarding the medical field in increasingly challenging environments. The society will fulfill its role and responsibility to enhance the rights and interests of our members and ensure that everyone feels a sense of pride.
Finally, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all members for their continued support and encouragement of the society. I, too, will humbly dedicate myself to the advancement of the society.
Thank you.
June 2025
President of the Korean Neurotraumatology Society,
Choi Seungon
